ARARIO GALLERY

About

Since its opening in 1989, Arario Gallery has operated exhibition spaces in various locations, including Seoul and Cheonan, Korea, Beijing and Shanghai, China, and New York, USA. With the overarching goal of securing and pursuing the identity of Asian art, Arario Gallery focuses on discovering, nurturing, and promoting Asian artists internationally, and showcasing experimental art from Asia through exhibitions, aiming to lead the contemporary art scene and serve as a representative gallery in Asia.

Arario Gallery Seoul
Since opening its doors in 2006 in Soyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Arario Gallery Seoul has been leading the contemporary art scene with a solid system of exclusive artists and bold exhibition programming. In March 2014, the gallery moved to a new location near the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and from April 2018 to November 2019, the gallery opened its second exhibition space in Seoul, Arario Gallery Seoul Rise Hotel, near Hongik University, in an effort to inherit and develop the young and experimental spirit that the area symbolizes. In 2022, Arario Gallery Seoul ended its Soyeok-dong era and reopened with a new look in February 2023 in Wonseo-dong, Jongno-gu. Through proactive discovery and steady support, the gallery aims to act as an enabler for artists and grow together, while continuing to contribute to the development of the Korean art scene by realizing experimental and serious exhibition projects.

Arario Gallery Shanghai
Since opening its first Chinese branch in 2005 in Jiuqiang, Beijing, and closing the Beijing branch in 2012, Arario Gallery has operated galleries in Shanghai's Xujiahui Hengshanpan Road from August 2014 to June 2017 and in Shanghai's Westbend area from July 2017 to August 2020, introducing exhibitions by Korean and other Asian artists from Japan, India, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and other countries to the Chinese art scene. With all of its accumulated experience and know-how in China, Arario Gallery Shanghai is set to open a new, larger and more advanced location in Shanghai's West Bund area in October 2022, along with the launch of ALP, a lifestyle editorial store for art lovers. As the longest established Korean gallery in China, Arario Gallery Shanghai aims to become a bridgehead for Asian artists, not just a short-term achievement, through continuous discovery and high-level exhibition opportunities.

Arario Gallery Cheonan
Arario Gallery Cheonan, where you can feel the passion for art of Chairman Kim Chang-il, has been at the forefront of bringing diverse contemporary art from around the world to Korea. Through various exhibition programs, such as the solo exhibition of American pop artist Keith Haring in 2002, the solo exhibition of rising German artist Sigmar Polke in 2004, the group exhibition of Leipzig School artists inheriting the strong tradition of German painting in 2005, the group exhibition that introduced the hot contemporary art scene in Southeast Asia in 2010, the group exhibition of Chinese video artists in 2012, the group exhibition of Chinese contemporary art artists in 2019, and the group exhibition of young Korean artists in 2022, we have contributed to the development of local culture and expanded the vision of the domestic art scene. Going forward, Arario Gallery Cheonan will continue to organize various cultural programs to help more people enjoy the joy of art, and to play its role as a platform for the local art scene.
