Opened in 2016 to shed light on talented domestic and international artists and explore various points of contact in contemporary art, Phoebe Gallery aims to be a flexible communication space through various channels, including art project planning and art consulting, while supporting artists by noting their potential.
PIBI Gallery has held solo exhibitions of mid-career Korean contemporary artists such as Kyojun Lee, Donggi Lee, Myungmi Lee, and Yanga Ham, as well as younger artists such as Nakhee Sung, Eyesoo Glass, Jungbae Lee, Myungmyeong Jeon, Heeyoung Kim, Eunsun Lee, Jonggeon Lee, Seunghye Jung, and Dongwan Kook, introducing various genres of contemporary art including painting, installation, photography, and video. Since 2018, the museum has also introduced new artists who are not limited to genres, such as Seungil Jung, Kim Tae-woo, Kim Young-joon, Kim Hyun-sung, Jang Sook-kyung, Jeon Kyung-pyo, Ahn Jung-kyung, Kwon Beetsam, and Uhm Yoo-jung, through the PIBI_LINK and PIBI+ exhibition programs, which connect artists with different fields of activity to showcase different approaches and interpretations. Recently, in 2023, the museum presented a group exhibition of three artists, Hyangmi Lee, Jeongji Lee, and Myungmi Lee, which explored the research and direction of Korean women abstract painters. In 2024, starting with a group exhibition, we are planning exhibitions of artists new to Phoebe Gallery, including Kim Hanna, Kim Minsoo, Ham Mina, Cha Hye Rim, and Kwon Ohbong.
With activities in various fields such as art education and museum exhibition planning, "Phoebe Academy" conducts educational programs for artists and art lovers by inviting experts, and has organized exhibitions of overseas artists in cooperation with domestic and foreign museums. In 2017, she curated exhibitions of Julian Opie at Suwon Museum of Art and Alex Katz at Daegu Museum of Art (2019), Alex Katz at Fosun Art Center in Shanghai (2020), and Alex Katz at Yuuhisai Koudokan in Kyoto (2023).
He published DONGI LEE, Conversation with Art Critic Ryu Byeonghak (2019), an in-depth conversation with the artist who helped launch Korean pop art, and PENTAGON (2021), which focuses on Lee's eclectic series, and Geometric Abstract Painting by Lee Kyo Jun (2022), which introduces the artist's work, which grew up alongside the Korean contemporary art movement in the 1970s and 1980s and continues to create installations and geometric abstract paintings.
