Cho Hyori (b. 1992)'s work almost always features a "wandering eye" (Artist's Note, 2023)-an eye that, when encountering an object, envisions every possible dimension of time and space the object has belonged to, currently inhabits, or may belong to in the future. In Cho's works, every part of the surface-front, back, and edges-conveys the omnidirectional nature of the image. This "wandering eye" extends beyond the artist's physical perception, incorporating the mechanical vision provided by various tools and programs to analyze objects in space. It reflects her commitment to fully understanding her subjects, as well as a vision shaped by her perceptual world that revisits certain pasts while occasionally reaching toward an unknown future. Through this approach, Cho's work continually questions the limits of "seeing" and explores how to translate a "complete" visual experience on a flat surface.

Cho earned her B.A. in Painting from Hongik University and her M.A. in two-dimensional art from Korea National University of Arts. Her solo exhibitions include Extended Play, Gallery Anov, Seoul (2021); and Your Clock is BEHIND / Your Clock is AHEAD, N/A, Seoul (2020). Cho's work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including Hysteria: Contemporary Realism Painting, Ilmin Museum of Art, Seoul (2023); Window Reconstruction, Amado Art Space, Seoul (2023); Bring to Light, Prompt Project, Seoul (2023); Rales, Wheezes and Crackles, Doosan Gallery, Seoul (2022); Usefulness - User Friendly, Eulji Art Center, Seoul (2022); Another Asian Artist, The Shophouse, Hong Kong (2022); and The Seasons, ThisWeekendRoom, Seoul (2022).

In Cho's (b.1992) work, we always find the presence of a 'wandering eye' (artist's note, 2023), which, when confronted with an object, looks out into all the dimensions of space and time that it might have belonged to, is belonging to, or might belong to in the future, in all conceivable or imaginable ways. Cho's planes are therefore mobilized to reproduce the omnidirectional nature of the image, reaching to the front, back, and edges of the plane. This 'wandering eye' is an eye that is not limited to the horizons allowed by the artist's own physical capabilities, but encompasses and embraces the capabilities of the mechanical and instrumental eye in the various programs and tools used to perceive objects and space, and is often willing to determine not only the independent state of an object, but also the changes in its properties that occur in response to external stimuli. This may be a manifestation of the will to understand the object encountered to the end, or it may be an aspect of the artist's work that emerges from the world of perception in which she lives - an endless rethinking of the past, and an occasional approach to a time that has not come. Cho's work continuously questions the horizons and categories of the act of seeing, and suggests ways to reproduce the results of seeing 'to the max' on a 'flat' plane.

Cho Hyo-ri studied painting at Hongik University and two-dimensional design at Korea National University of Arts.
